If you’re visiting Yokohama with children and looking for a fun, educational activity, don’t miss the Hamagin Space Science Center (also known as Hamagin Uchuu Kodomo Center). This hands-on science museum is all about space and astronomy — perfect for curious little minds and grown-ups alike!

The Hamagin Space Science Center—officially named under a naming-rights agreement with The Bank of Yokohama—is actually operated by Yokohama City, with day-to-day management handled by a designated third‑party operator (CTC Joint Venture managed by Congre and Tokyu Community).
Located in Isogo Ward, Yokohama, the center features multiple floors of interactive exhibits, real astronaut gear, a planetarium, and even an indoor athletic gym! It’s ideal for rainy days too, since it’s almost entirely indoors.

What You Can See and Do at Hamagin Space Science Center

The museum is designed to look like a giant spaceship, spanning from the 5th floor down to two basement levels. Each floor has a different theme with hands-on, interactive exhibits that let children and adults explore space and science through play.
Highlights by Floor:

- 5th Floor – Space Captain Room
Climb aboard a simulated command deck, try the space simulator or catch a live Science Show on weekends with bubble-blowing and air cannons. - 4th Floor – Space Laboratory (Space Research Room)
Enjoy physics-based puzzles and rolling-ball exhibits (like “Beecoro”) that demonstrate gravity and motion. - 3rd Floor – Space Training Room
Experience astronaut-like challenges: lunar jumps, “spatial transfer units,” and a “planet gym” with slides and climbing areas styled like a space station. - 2nd Floor – Space Discovery Room
Discover plasma balls, lightning demonstrations, aurora displays, and weekend science labs where kids can try simple experiments. - 1st Floor – Planetarium and Lobby
A 23 m dome shows a realistic starry sky using a projector that holds a Guinness World Record for projecting over 700 million stars. Most programs include staff-led star explanations. Elsewhere, there’s a gift shop and café.
There is even a nice play park next to the building. Re-entry to the Space Center is permitted, so you’re free to come and go as you please (Don’t lose your entry ticket!).

My child especially loved the space gym area and the planetarium. We spent more than five hours exploring everything! Although most of the explanation are in Japanese, kids will still enjoy the demonstrations, displays, exciting physical activities and hands-on experiences.

Family-Friendly Points I found at Hamagin Space Science Center
Here are some family-friendly tips I found at the facility.

You can park your stroller in the stroller parking area
The building has five floors and elevators, but the stairs are convenient for moving around. There is a stroller parking area on the first floor near the ticket booth, so I recommend parking your stroller there.
You can bring your own food; there are a lot of spots to sit down and rest
There is a small restaurant in the building offering dishes such as curry for around 400 yen, but outside food is welcome. You can also bring snacks for kids. We arrived around 9:30, skipped lunch, played for five straight hours, and then left to have a late lunch near the station.

You can check live camera on YouTube
Even more amazingly, you can watch a live camera on YouTube to see how crowded it is!
